Car-Sharing FAQ – How to Share Your Car with Co-oto
General Information about Car-Sharing
Co-oto is designed to promote peer-to-peer car-sharing without any commercial intermediaries and does not provide insurance solutions or partnerships.
Therefore, before starting any car-sharing arrangement, it is essential to check with your respective insurance providers — including the borrower’s personal liability insurance and the vehicle owner’s liability and (if applicable) comprehensive insurance. The situation might depend of many variables including the country your living in and the insurances of both users.
About the App
The app is available for free with limited features: up to 10 trips and 3 borrowers per vehicle.
To unlock all features, vehicle owners can subscribe to a monthly plan starting from €1.90 (the exact price may vary depending on country and platform).
The app is only paid for vehicle owners. Borrowers can use it for free.
Currently, cost calculations are based on fuel and annual fixed expenses for gasoline or diesel vehicles. The app does not yet support electric vehicles.
The breakdown includes all trips taken by the borrower and automatically factors in fixed costs, depreciation, and fuel expenses.
At this time, Co-oto is designed for people who already know each other. It does not provide a public matching platform for connecting users.
Cost sharing
All major European currencies – and others – are available: Euro, Swiss franc, Scandinavian currencies, Eastern Europe, Turkey, Canada…
Users and accounts
It is not currently possible to exchange roles within the same contract. However, you can cancel or leave your contract and choose your new role without having to recreate a new account.
For technical reasons, the application works with data entered by car-sharers, and not on a tracking device installed in the vehicle, which would provide data that is more difficult to corrupt. The accuracy of sharing calculations therefore depends very much on the honesty of users. For this reason, good faith and trust are the cornerstones of private car-sharing.
To facilitate transparency, we are currently proposing to include photos of receipts (full tanks, etc.) in the expenses. We’re still working on implementing solutions in future versions to get as close as possible to fair sharing that’s as difficult to falsify as possible.
One vehicle can be managed by one owner and joined by up to 10 borrowers.
At the same time, a borrower can use a single account to join up to 3 different vehicle owners.
Yes, a borrower can participate to up to 3 vehicles.
