Types of Costs in Co-oto

There are three types of costs, each calculated differently for fair distribution:

Usage Cost

Fixed cost per kilometer, configurable by the owner. Applied to each trip.

Depreciation

Split 50% by distance and 50% by time of usage.

Fixed Costs (time)

Leasing, insurance, parking, taxes. Distributed based on time of usage.

Calculation per Trip

For each trip, the user sees a complete cost breakdown:

  • Cost per km multiplied by the trip distance
  • Share of fixed costs calculated proportionally to usage
  • Cumulative total since the last balance reset

Concrete Example

Vehicle parameters:

  • Price per km: 0.10 EUR
  • Monthly fixed costs: 200 EUR (insurance, leasing...)
  • Monthly depreciation: 100 EUR

Usage this month:

  • Julie: 200 km, 10 days of usage
  • Thomas: 300 km, 5 days of usage

Calculation for Julie:

  • Kilometric cost: 200 km x 0.10 EUR = 20 EUR
  • Fixed costs (by time): 200 EUR x (10d / 15d) = 133 EUR
  • Depreciation (50% km + 50% time): 53 EUR
  • Total owed by Julie: 206 EUR

Balance Management

Flexible Reset

The owner decides when to reset the balance - monthly, quarterly, or whenever they want.

Payments Between Users

Co-oto calculates amounts owed but does not handle any payments. Users organize between themselves (bank transfer, cash, etc.).
