The two types of carsharing

Car-sharing can take on many forms and subtleties, which can considerably alter the way costs are deducted or the degree of user involvement. For this reason, Co-oto has decided to develop and integrate two types of car-sharing into the app, each dedicated to distinct types of need.

Both types of carsharing can be configured by the vehicle owner after creating an account, and it is possible to switch from one to the other in the settings.

Occasional sharing

Occasional sharing is designed for owners who use their vehicles much more frequently than their borrowers. In this case, only borrowers are required to enter all their journeys in the application, while this obligation does not apply to the vehicle owner.

Terms and conditions

Settlements
  • A countdown can be reset at any time by the vehicle owner.
Trips, fuel and fixed costs
  • The vehicle owner supplies the vehicle with a ready-to-use quantity of petrol.
  • The borrower can add a tank of fuel during the journey if the tank is not full enough; this is deducted from the meter.
  • Borrower uses the vehicle and enters the number of kilometers traveled
  • The app calculates the cost of the journey, taking into account the cost of fuel and – if the owner has inserted fixed costs – the cost of leasing / depreciation and insurance or other fixed costs pro rata to the number of kilometers traveled.
  • Borrowers can reserve the vehicle; reservations must be approved by the owner
Each borrower has his or her own cost statement, which can be reset by the owner

Limitations

  • Limited to 3 users per vehicle: 3 borrowers / 1 owner (Maj 28.05.2024)

Regular sharing

Occasional sharing is for people who share the vehicle on an equitable basis. With this option, costs are divided as fairly as possible between the two parties, but each must insert all his or her own journeys.

Terms and conditions

Settlements
  • Every month, a new invoice is generated. It contains a breakdown of journeys, fuel, fixed costs and any other expenses (cannot be reset on request).
Trips, fuel and fixed costs
  • Both users insert all their journeys
  • Both users enter all their fuel fill-ups.
  • Fuel costs are then shared on a pro rata basis according to the number of kilometers traveled.
  • Users can also add one-off expenses (tires, vehicle maintenance at the garage, etc.).
Fixed costs
  • The owner may decide to add annual fixed costs (insurance, leasing/amortization, parking, etc.).
  • These fixed costs are then divided into monthly installments and deducted from the invoices generated each month.

Limitations

  • Limited to two users: 1 borrower / 1 owner. The vehicle owner can also activate an option to add guest users (max. 3 per person).
  • For sharing to be fair and correct, both users must add all their fill-ups and all their journeys.
