The definition
Co-oto is an app that organizes the sharing of a vehicle within a private circle of people who know each other: a family, neighbors, roommates, friends or a small team. It handles bookings, records trips and automatically splits the costs between members, with no commission and without ever touching their money.
Two roles, one circle
Co-oto works as a private sharing circle: an owner, their vehicle, and the people they invite.
The owner
They set up their vehicle, define the rates and invite the drivers. The owner stays in control of the circle's settings.
The drivers
They join the circle by invitation, book and drive. Everyone sees the availability, their own trips and their own statement.
There is no public search and no renting to strangers: you only share with people you know.

The life of a trip
From booking to cost sharing, everything happens in the app, in four steps.
Book
Pick your slot in the shared calendar: everyone sees when the vehicle is free. Depending on the circle's settings, the booking is instant or approved by the owner.
Drive
At departure, enter the odometer reading (or take a photo of it). During the trip, the vehicle shows as "in use" for the whole circle.
Close the trip
When you return, enter the final odometer reading. The trip is saved with its distance, its duration and a detailed cost breakdown.
Costs are shared automatically
Co-oto applies the circle's rates and assigns the trip's cost to its driver. Nobody reaches for a calculator.
How costs are shared (in brief)
Every trip has a cost, calculated automatically when it is closed, based on the rates the owner has defined. That cost combines up to three elements: distance (a price per kilometer that covers fuel and wear), time (an optional price per hour, for situations where keeping the vehicle matters as much as the kilometers) and a share of the vehicle's fixed costs (insurance, leasing, depreciation, taxes), spread according to each person's actual use. The amount is assigned to the trip's driver, and to nobody else.
In the other direction, anything a member pays out of pocket is credited to them: a tank of fuel, a car wash, a repair. Each person's balance is simply the difference between what they have used and what they have paid for. At any moment, the app knows who owes what to whom, without anyone ever opening a spreadsheet.

The balance: who owes what to whom
Every trip, every refill and every expense feeds a running balance. At any moment, everyone sees what they owe or what they are owed, with the detail behind every line.
When you settle up among yourselves (in cash, by bank transfer, however you prefer), the owner resets the counter and the settlement history is kept. Co-oto keeps the books but never touches your money.

What Co-oto is not

It is not a rental platform
You are not renting your car out to strangers. There is no listing, no public profile, no matchmaking. Co-oto only organizes sharing between people who already know each other.
It is not carpooling
You are not sharing one ride in the same car. You share the vehicle itself: each person uses it in turn, for their own journeys.
It is not a self-service scheme
There is no fleet, no station, no subscription to an operator. The shared car is the one already parked outside your door.

Do I need to install a box in the car?
No. Co-oto requires no hardware: no box, no tracker, no connected key. Everything relies on the odometer reading, which you enter or photograph.
Does Co-oto take a commission on the money exchanged?
Never. Co-oto works out who owes what to whom, but the money moves directly between you. Any subscription is entirely separate from the amounts you repay each other.
Who can see my car?
Only the people you invited with your code. Your vehicle appears in no search and is visible to no stranger.
Am I tracked during my trips?
No. There is no continuous tracking, neither of the vehicle nor of your phone. The only possible location is a parking spot the driver records themselves, to show where the car is parked.
Do I have to pay to try it?
No. You can set everything up without even creating an account, in guest mode. And when a second member joins your circle, you get 21 days of premium features, with no card required.
